Hoodia gordonii, also known as Bushman’s hat, is a leafless spiny succulent plant supposed to have therapeutic properties in folk medicine where it has often been used as a weight-loss aid and appetite suppressant. It grows naturally in the driest parts of Botswana, South Africa, and Namibia. The flowers smell like rotten meat and are pollinated mainly by flies.
They are nearly impossible to establish using cuttings, but readily grow from seeds.
